Travel Advice for Beginners
There is a whole lot to take into consideration when embarking on a journey. Sure it does sound simple – like book a flight, head right to the airport, board a plane and then take off. But in-between all the easy ambiance, several documents are required, security checks and a whole lot to think about before the actual arrival at the airport and the entire check-in procedure.
This article shares some tips on travel logistics and the necessary documents to have intact when planning a trip most especially when traveling for the first time.
Passport validity and necessities
Though there are several visa-free countries that one can travel to, it is essential to always ensure that the passport has several blank pages left which can last for the period that has to be spent at the destination.
Though several countries permit the usage of electronic visas, other countries need the traveler to buy a full-page visa sticker, while in some countries the passport will just be stamped while on entry.
Despite that, always have at least 3 blank pages left on your passport for short trips and 6 for longer trips.
Flight Tickets
Thanks to technology, everything can now be done electronically, so printing out a flight ticket is now optional and there is no need to print out the booking itinerary. Travelers just need to show up at the check-in desk at the airline and hand over their passport to the attendant who then checks all the necessary information on the computer. But make sure to book an early flight if taking a flight from Hong Kong.
Get Travel Insurance
Travel with insurance is necessary so you know you are safe should your bags go missing and other unforeseen circumstances. Though it is normal advice, other countries have a travel insurance obligation in which travelers must show proof before being permitted to get into the country.
Countries like China for instance does not let in people flying in from Hong Kong without any travel insurance. Those who do not have must buy at the airport which is about $5 a day and may become costly for those who have to stay long. Thus, always try to get an insurance policy beforehand to prevent this improbability.
Get Sufficient Luggage Allowance
Flying these days has become costly and baggage charges keep coming up in all travel destinations. Having sufficient luggage weight is the best way of avoiding these extra charges that have been placed by several airlines.
Checking in with customs and immigration
Traveling nowadays can be quite stressful especially with customs and immigration rules. Thus it is essential to arrive at the airport early so that you can figure out what to do in case you run into some problems with your documents. Checking in early will allow you some to time to get the paperwork sorted and not miss your flight.
Flight information screens
Lastly, make sure the first thing you do when you arrive at the airport is check the arrival and departure screen which outlines all the departure and arrival flights. This information will help you efficiently manage your final moments at the airport between checking in and boarding, and will allow you to say a proper farewell to your loved ones before taking off.
